This stunning English Gothic Revival "chimney piece" of walnut dates to the mid 19th century. It has elaborate carvings including a jester on each side and King John slaying a dragon in the center, almost full round twisted column with a capital on each side, and paneling over the whole with Gothic freezes. The entire piece is in excellent condition. This chimney piece is 104" high, 66" wide. The fireplace opening is 38" high and 34" wide. This installation, dating ca. 1840-60 is an unusually fine example of its type and replacement would most likely come from a European source for anything comparable and with the current euro vs. dollar exchange rate would value it $50,000 US.
